Standard and testing sources: Sealed gamma-radiation standard source based on Plutonium-238 and Carbon-13 radionuclides / Pu-238 and C-13
238Pu + 13C
Half-life: 87.74 years
Application: Sealed gamma-radiation sources based on 238Pu / 13C are used as working standard of the first or second category for calibration of detectors in spectrometers of high-pure germanium. Construction: The source is produced as mixture of powders of Plutonium-238 (Pu-238) dioxide and carbon enriched by isotope Carbon-13 (C-13), that is poured in stainless steel capsule that is placed in stainless steel case.
Typical photon output per 4Π steradian (6.13 MeV): not less than 2000 ph./sec. (at nominal activity of 500 mCi).
Expanded uncertainty of photon output: 3% (k=2)
Neutron output per 4Π steradian (4 MeV): not less than 5х105 ph./sec.
